BOOK REPORT ASSIGNMENTS AND DUE DATES:
September 30 - Children’s Literature Poster Contest (See rules sheet)
October 31 - Read a book you’ve never read before by one of your favorite living authors. Then write a one page letter to the author telling him/her what you liked about the book. You might also add other comments or questions that you have. Stamp and address an envelope to the author or publisher found on the copyright page of the book, then bring both the letter and stamped envelope to class on the due date. Consider including a self-addressed stamped envelope for the author to use to respond to you. (See forms for letter writing directions distributed the first week of Oct.)
December 20 - Read a book from the Half Day School Book Award List (See Mrs. Lathrop) and make a diorama of an important scene from the book. (Please do not use plastic figures in your diorama. All or most of it should be handmade.)
January 31 - Read and evaluate a book with a family member. Feel free to start reading over the Winter Break. (Evaluation form distributed first week of January)
February 28 - Read a nonfiction book to complete the Three for Three Activity. (Direction sheet given the first week of February)
March 21 - Read a book from a genre not covered in previous book reports. Fill out and brightly color the “My Magnificent Book Report” poster given to you on March 3.
April 30 - Design a book jacket with a complete summary and a book review (critique). (See handout for construction directions. Paper available upon request)
May 30 - Create a colorful picture book of the most important events in the book; a picture summary (8 picture minimum - 12 picture maximum). Include a short caption under each picture.
